Cleaning Tips for Inside and Outside your Home

When someone wants to scrub the exterior of their home, they call MDF Painting to power wash it. The pressure washing and cleaning agents combine with handwashing gutters and windows to give your whole home a serious clean. The result of this process always leads to a brighter exterior that you can see. While it may be tempting to take the serious cleaning power of a power washer indoors, we looked up the best practices to clean the inside of your home.
According to the Center for Disease Control, gloves are the first step. The cleanest option is disposable ones and washing your hands immediately after use. To disinfect surfaces, make a bleach solution that is heavily dilated. Mixing 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water are the best methods. Ventilation is also key due to the release of chemicals in the air. Always be sure that there is no anomia in household cleaning products you use before bleaching.
For clothing and blankets, use the warmest water setting on your washer and make sure everything is completely dry. If you feel more comfortable, leave your gloves on while laundering or wash hands between cycles. If people are feeling ill in your household, it might be worth investing in liners for laundry baskets.
To clean your walls, grab your vacuum. Use the soft brush attachment to gently remove the dust and follow it up with a soft cloth. Avoid using excessive amounts of water, especially if your walls are painted. If you have a flat, satin or eggshell finish, stay away from harsh chemicals and hard scrubbing. Glossy and semi-gloss paints are sturdier, but it's better to use a softer damp sponge. If you have latex-based paint, using non-abrasive cleaners with a well-wrung sponge is the safest option. For serious stains, combine baking soda with water and apply. Another cleaning solution you can make is mixing liquid dish detergent, 1/4 of a teaspoon of white vinegar with water, and let this sit for 10 minutes before wiping off.
Adding new paint also helps seal in hidden chemicals that could be affecting breathing. MDF offers free estimates for power washing and painting for a cleaner home this spring!
