Local Business, Local Radio!
Recently, owner Mark Defrancesco traveled up to Farmington, CT to discuss business with Ray Dunaway, Joe D’Ambrosio and Kathleen Crispino. The morning talk show, Mornings with Ray Dunaway has had a Wednesday segment called Connecticut Business Now which focuses on local businesses throughout the state.
Mark briefly discussed the origins of MDF Painting. He began painting while still in college and focused his craft on residents in New Haven County in 1995. Since then, MDF has expanded out to Fairfield County, Hartford County, Middlesex County and New London County. He discussed the biggest challenge he faces in recent times, the shortage of labor as more and more youngsters decide to go to college instead of trade school or apprenticeships. Mark wants to change the stereotypes behind craftsman, giving willing painters a path to a steady career that keeps money coming in year long. To tackle this problem, he is starting a Painter School. The school helps craftsman hone their skills as they work through the various ranks, from apprentice to crew leader, to field supervisor, to sales.
When asked if certain counties have more demanding customers than others, Mark reiterated his long-term motto of quality painting will attract and satisfy quality customers, regardless of address. He also discussed MDF’s appearance on Hotel Hell with Gordon Ramsay. The producers wanted a company that was flexible, because the work was being done over-night, Mark explained to Joe and Ray. The local paint store stayed open to accommodate. 27 painters worked from 5pm to 7am to accomplish the mission to remodel this Historic Inn. Mark also explained the importance of choosing the right painting contractor for your project. Always check credentials and insurance! Don’t be afraid to ask your contractor questions. Using the right products to get the job done correctly. It’s so much more than price, it’s about value.
